Restoration of Graveyard Gates
The gates at the Old graveyard were restored to their former glory in the last couple of weeks. The gates which were erected at the old Graveyard entrance circa 1940’s and which may have been used at a previous location prior to the 1940’s had corroded badly in places and needed attention. The gates which were initially removed by the Rural Social Scheme men Chris Conefry, Gerry Kilkenny and Damien Redican were excellently restored by local man Philip Murphy of Ardcolum Agri Stores, Drumshanbo, and are now looking as good as ever. The restoration of the gates was made possible because of the annual graveyard collection which allows for the maintenance of the graveyards and other small projects in the graveyards. Thanks to Philip Murphy for his excellent restoration work on the gates, and Chris, Gerry and Damien for the installation of the gates which will be there for many years to come.
