World 4 Wall Championships
We had 5 club members compete in last weeks Workd 5 Walk Championships held in Leinster Venues and the National Handball Centre in Croke Park. Ed Lee competed in the 65+ competition and had a comprehensive win in his first game only to come up against stronger opposition in his second round match which was a quarter final. Hard luck Ed. Ruairi McKiernan teamed up with Drumshanbos Marc McShera in the 13 and under doubles , both very young for this age category unfortunately they bowed out after their first game. Sophie Kane competed in 13 and under , and progressed to the plate semi final in singles and cup semi final in the doubles with her partner Tipperarys Molly Joyce . Sophie has had a huge year and is a world champion In Onewall code which is a tremendous achievement. Daniel Kane got to the quarterfinals of the 15 and under comp playing some great handball before bowing out at this stage. He teamed up with Annaduff’s Maxim Gilmartin in the doubles and the two boys played fantastic handball making it all the way to the final only to come up short. Excellent performance by both lads and a mighty achievement. In doubles Katie Kane teamed up with Kilglass Gaels Niamh Hall and the girls played some great matches to reach the semifinals. Katie played in the 15 and under singles and got all the way to the final in what was a nail biting thriller of a game. It was tit for tat the whole way through and Katie was pipped by just a single point in the end. Hard luck to Katie who also had a fantastic campaign this year coming away with a medal in the World One wall competition in August. Jamie Murray also reached a semifinal in his Men’s C competition with his partner Abbeyknockmoys Joe Gallagher. Well done to all the Leitrim players who are really starting to put Leitrim back on the Handball map.
